How SongTyping works
Pick any song from the catalog above and its music video starts playing with the lyrics laid out as a typing exercise. Type each line as it's sung — if you fall behind, the video pauses and waits for you, so you're never typing blind. When the song ends you get your words-per-minute (WPM), accuracy, and a record of the words that slowed you down.
Songs are rated from Beginner to Expert based on how fast the lyrics are actually sung. If a track feels too quick, you can slow the video to 0.5x or switch on Easy mode, which drops capital letters and punctuation. Not sure where to start? Take the 30-second typing test and we'll suggest songs that match your current speed.
Why practice typing with music?
Traditional typing drills repeat random words until you stop paying attention. Lyrics work differently: you already know the words, the rhythm sets a natural pace, and wanting to keep up with the song replaces the willpower that drills demand. Choruses repeat, which quietly drills the same common words several times per session — exactly how speed on everyday vocabulary improves.
Typing along in Spanish, French, or Hebrew also doubles as spelling and vocabulary practice for language learners. We've collected the research and our own reasoning on the benefits page, and the blog has practical guides — from fixing common typing mistakes to building a daily habit.
